Posteriormente, la empresa estatal continuó la labor industrial y emprendió un proceso de renovación y ampliación de su capacidad de transporte. The expansion of the railroad in Argentina towards the end of the 19th Century made it necessary to build workshops to repair and maintain the growing rolling stock, and over time, also to manufacture it. The four large British-owned broad gauge companies and the General Administration of the State Railways invested significant sums in the local manufacture of a high percentage of the new coaches and wagons that they incorporated into service from 1910 to 1930. Subsequently, the state company continued industrial work and undertook a process of renewal and expansion of its transportation capacity. The photographs that form the heart of this book illustrate these processes and give unequivocal testimony of how the railways in Argentina gave rise to an important metal-mechanic industry and played a key role in the economic transformation of the country.
